Driving with My Eyes Closed

I am always fascinated with my dreams. Most times I wont remember them but other times I will remember parts. There are those times when my dreams stand out. Some can be so vivid that I cannot get them out of my head and end up thinking about them all day. The dreams that really matter the most to me are the ones that repeat. That is because then I know my subconscious is trying to tell me something.

Last night I had a dream that I was driving my car with my eyes closed. This is the second time I had this dream. The first one was me falling asleep at the wheel and not being able to open my eyes. I was able to pull the car over and open my eyes. Funny thing about this was I was driving from the back seat. Eventually the cops pulled me over. The dream I had last night was similar. I was driving with my eyes closed but this time I was in the driver's seat. I could not open my eyes and I did hit the breaks almost expecting to crash but I never did.

So, when I have a dream like this I normally think about my life and try to explain it to the best of my ability. I automatically feel that my dream is telling me that I am heading to an unknown future. That I have the ability to stop myself and open my eyes to go in a different way if I chose. I think that fact that I was not scared about crashing in either dream means that I have no fear of this unknown future. I am actually validated by this because not only did I say in the past that I am going to let fate take the wheel and see what happens, but I also said I had no fear of it.

Interestingly enough, I decided to get look up my dream on dreammoods.com. It seems that I am not too far off:

To dream that you are driving a vehicle, signifies your life's journey and your path in life. The dream is telling of how you are moving and navigating through life. If you are driving and cannot see the road ahead of you, then it indicates that you do not know where you are headed in life and what you really want to do with yourself. You are lacking direction and goals.

I agree with this assessment up to a certain point. I do have direction and a goal. Right now I am working hard on the job search and my goal is to return to the city of my birth. However, I have no direction in my love life. I have no goals right now and I am pretty much along for the ride. I think this is where the dream is stemming from.

I have thought about this very much. First, I want to say that I was smiling to myself this morning because I was trying not to talk about fate again this year, but I guess that is not going to happen. I stand firm that I need to concentrate on me this year. My main goal when it comes to my love life is to just sit and observe. I just need to watch what's happening in the world around me. It is not just about the dating game but rather how to deal with women in general.

There was no reference to backseat driving on this site but I will venture a guess. Usually if you are dreaming about about being in a car and not driving it means you are not in control of the current path you on. I think the fact that in my first dream I was driving from the back seat means that I much as I may believe that I am not in control of my love life, I truly am. Perhaps the second dream is merely acknowledgment that I have indeed taken control of it although I have no clue where I am going.

I dreamed about driving with my eyes closed last night and I was unable to open them. Even with my fingers trying to force them open. I'm wondering if this means that in my heart I know where I am headed but am unwilling to acknowledge it.
You sound like you are on the right track with your dream and your life mijo.

I have never encounted a dream that I was able to remember until the one I encounted on wed night in which bothered me greatly, so much so I googled the meaning of driving at night unable to open eyes & couldn't beleive that I had also encounted this same dream as others on this site, quite confronting for me to have experienced this as is the hidden message within such a dream being that that's exactly where I am personally at in my life being 40.

This is one of the recurring dream that I have. Most of the time, I feel that I have direction in life and everything seems to be normal to me. But my dream always has got the same theme,

I would be driving....and i know that there will be curve ahead, but I am unable to see the road either it's too dark or unable to open my eyes. Then I would push hard on the break but it countinues drive...but I wouldn't get involved in any accident..just this fear of not being able to see where I am going or avoid collusion.

I got a feeling that perhaps there is something deep my sub-conscious is trying to tell me.....still searching for the meaning.

I have this dream at least once a month now for the last 6 months which led me to this site. I love your interpretation because I was searching for meaning of this dream. In my dream I am panicing because I know my eyes are shut and the car is driving down the road. In every dream I have I always ended up at my destination like my driveway or a parking lot. I have very vivid dreams and this one always freaks me out.

I can't even lie. I just had this dream and had one on Monday and I decided to look it up to see what it means. I can definitely relate to the love life part because I just got out of a relationship with someone I loved and wanted to be with and had to walk away because she felt I was disrespecting our relationship. I think that's what I need to do. Just sit back and observe instead of jumping into the next relationship.

Wow I had similar dreams of me behind the wheel of my car not being able to open my eyes. I would want to open them, but thry would know open. I even slapped myself but I could not open my eyes. I never went off a cliff or crashed but I woke up sweating.

Incredible. I have been having this dream for some years now. I am really frightened by my inability to force my eyes open, or indeed to stop very quickly. I have never crashed though. I had it again last night and was shouting to my wife to help me prise my eyes open. When I did I found that I had somehow driven down a farm track to a dead end. How about that for a depressing omen? I am amazed that other people suffer with the same dream - regardless of what it might mean. My own guess at the meaning was similar - I didn’t know where I was going in life.

Recently I had a dream I was waiting for my boyfriend to come home from an airport, but I was hours early so to kill time, I was driving in circle between the airport and a hospital next door. All the while I couldn't open my eyes and I was terrified I was going to crash at any second because I kept having to drive through a busy intersection to get back and forth between the two buildings. Before falling asleep in real life, I had just got done fighting with my boyfriend about how I wish he would trust me (We've been dating for a year and a half and he frequently accuses me of cheating on him or not being true with my emotions). It hurts me because I really do love him and I want him to trust me, but I'm beginning to realize maybe I'm not the problem here. After reading this article I'm almost 100% sure of what my subconscious was trying to tell me...

Hello my driving while sleep bloggers ! This is also a reoccurring dream for me . This time it was during a nap after church! I even tried to open my eye with my hand... as I did , I still couldn’t see anything with it open !! Crazy... However, the similarités are the same as many of you... « relationship »! Consequently, my interpretation is spiritual , the message in church today was about trusting God! Therefore, I conclude we’re all traveling somewhere ....but our faith must be placed in God’s hands as we travel with our eyes shut to get us there safely! May each of you be blessed an reach your destination that has already been predetermined safely !

I, too, have occasional dreaming of driving with my eyes closed. I can't seem to open them. I try and try with my facial muscles to get them open. I try to pry them open with my fingers. I never crash or run off my lane. My husband and I are downsizing and moving out of state where we are starting over, not knowing anyone there. After reading the dream blogs, TODAY is my day to put my faith in God's hands in order for me to move ahead, with positivity and trust. God does have it mapped out for me. I must not wander!

This last time I was driving with eyes closed and there was someone in the back seat, talking to me. It was very wet and seemed muddy. I never try to pry them open, because I'm even more terrified of crashing. Both hands on the wheel at all times.

I had a very vivid dream were I was driving in the drivers seat of a big van, but the seat was too low and I couldnt see the road. My friend owned the car and I asked him for help with the seat but he couldn't help me. In the neccessity of the moment, I struggled to sit higher up and was finally able to see the road ahead through the windscreen. I wasnt afraid to crash either though even though I couldnt see and I couldnt stop the car either. I think it means it's up to me to get myself up and do the things I need to do to get to where ever it is the road is taking me!

I had this dream last night. I fell asleep driving and woke up at a destination and I didn't even know how I got their sleep driving and I was surprised that I didn't die.. I did a double take like omg I'm alive.
I'm trying to figure out what in my waking life this represents because it's pretty unusual. I'd say lack of clear vision or direction in life. Just winging it so to speak...
